Week of April 8th

Language Arts: In reading this week, we got our new books.  We are reading two books about the Oregon Trail.  We decided that we would turn the book into a play for our reading response.

Math: In math, the green group is working on angles and geometry.  The purple group is working on simplifying fractions.  This was a fun week!

Writing: In writing, we're writing poetry.  First, we wrote acrostic poems, then a haiku, and now we're writing a number poem.  One example is "Two trendy tapirs taped tape to tents."  We're writing poems because April  is National Poetry Month!  It's awesome.

Social Studies:This week in Social Studies we learned about the Oregon Trail.  We are reading packets and highlighting important facts.  We are also reading books in language arts about the Oregon Trail.  That's what we have been doing in Social Studies.

Computer: For computer we are doing ixl.com.  It is where we click on our grade level and it quizzes us on whatever we need to know for that grade.  It's pretty fun. :) :P :)

PE: In PE we are doing a game called Scooter City.  We build things out of noodles and other things and we use scooter boards.

Free Choice: For free choice you had to finish the rest of your work if you didn't get it done or work on other things.

Week of March 18th

This is what is in our blog:  Math, Performing Arts, Science, Language Arts, Library, Writing, Stock Market Game, Art, and Reading.

Language Arts: In Language Arts, starting today, we started reading our Civil War books independently so we could get them done faster.

Math: In math we did a CML test.  It was fun.  We also did a few math pages.  Oh and I forgot to mention that the purple group had a math test.

Writing: This week in writing we were finishing our Civil War journal stories.  Most of us finished but some of us didn't.

Art: In art we have been doing the auction project.  It rocks!  We get to paint wood pieces with paint pens and they're burned and looking wonderful!!!  OMG, LOL, FO!  (Buy it, buy it, buy it!!!!)

Stock Market Game: For the Stock Market Game it is pretty cool.  Somebody figured out you can buy the stock market game as an actual stock!!!

Science: On Thursday we had a Science Fair.  Everybody in the school did an experiment, even some of the preschoolers.  It was amazing!  All the Creators did a great job!  Everybody can't wait to see what they do next year!  That is what we did in science.

Reading: So the stuff that we are reading is somewhat common.  We are reading graphic novels, chapter books, and flat out randoms.  Luckily our teacher lets us read a graphic novel for an assignment!

Library: Our Library teacher, Ms. Becky, got a black and white puppy named Bean.  She is soooooooooo cuuuuuuute!!!  Anyway, there are new books coming in.  Our class loves to read!

PE: For PE we did the usual-play games and have fun.

Performing Arts: We came up with ideas for the spring musical.  We are also working on acting.

Week of March 11

Math: This week the green group did long division.  Purple/orange group worked on fractions.

Xtramath: During math we have been doing a program called xtramath.  Xtramath is like online flash cards but when you get one right it turns green and you get to do another one.  When you finish addition you move on to subtraction.  That is what xtramath is.

Writing: So in writing we are summarizing in cursive.  We are also making stories in cursive.  Mainly we are writing paragraphs in cursive.

Science: This week in science we worked on our agar and everybody thought it was very cool.  We put some of our agar on some slides and we put the agar under the microscope and some of the agar under the microscope was very, very gross to some people.  Also we have to throw away our fast food project because they were too moldy to be in an actual classroom where it could grow more and more mold.  The fast food Wendy's won out of Wendy's, Subway, McDonald's and Dairy Queen.  We did lots of cool science experiments this week and hope that we can do this again another time.

Art: We did pixel art.  We also worked on the auction project.

EMP Museum: On Tuesday, we went to the EMP Museum in Seattle.  The museum was literally right next to the Space Needle.  We looked at "The Art of Video Games" as well as other cool exhibits.  It was really fun.

π Day: On Thursday we have Pi Day because it was 3-14.  We had a pi worksheet for morning work, pi writing, discovered that pi is just circumference of a circle divided by the diameter, and even had pie at the end of the day!

PE: In PE we're doing awesome games and Ms. Nancy is making everything...EPIC!!!  Ms. Nancy has games with scooter boards and it's so fun.  Seabury is so cool!  Wow wow wow.

French: French was boring as usual.  KIDDING!  It was great!  We practiced saying the numbers and animals in French.  She even gave us animal crackers!  Yay!

Gathering: This week in gathering the Superstars had a presentation about their pollution walk.  They found lots of trash and they thought of lots of solutions.  The DI teams were also given certificates for their great job at the regional competition.

School Store: For school store, they were low in stock.  They had Dr. Seuss pencils and the sparkle twister mechanical pencils.  They also had tootsie pops and stretchy aliens and things like that.  They said they had domos, but by the time I got there, they were sold out.  Somebody took like all of them and there weren't any for some other somebodies who really wanted some domos and didn't get any.  Other than that little incident school store was fine.

Weeks of February 25 and March 4

This is our blog and these are the things we are writing about: library, writing, social studies, math, recess, science, gathering, morning meeting and music.

Language Arts: We are continuing our Civil War books.  Many of us are doing good.  Some aren't.

Math: This week and last week in math the green group is doing division.  The purple group is doing fractions.  The green group math was easy.  The purple group math was hard.

Writing: In writing last week and this week we are still writing our Civil War journals about either a nurse, soldier, drummer, etc.  They are getting to be very interesting like fake holes in the notebook or even getting their hand wet, putting it on the notebook and then putting red marker on it.  And the funny thing is it turns pink when they do it.  Also we are going through our circle in writing: 1. Prewriting-decide what to write.  2. Rough Draft  3.  Peer conference  4. Edit-Make it better  5. Teacher conference and last, but not least  6. PUBLISH!  Most people are on either Teacher Conference or Publish.  That is all we did in writing.

Social Studies: For social studies this week we finished our Civil War timelines.  They were really long.  On Tuesday, we finished our Civil War unit.

Science:  In the past 2 weeks we have been trying to finish microbiology.  We are doing this experiment to see which place in the classroom is dirtiest.  We swabbed a bunch of places in the classroom.  Each kid did one.  Then we put it on agar.  We also swabbed our hand and then our sanitized hand.  And that is what we did in science.

Gathering: At gathering last week we had the Dr. Seuss trivia.  It was fun listening to the questions.  We sang and stuff too.  The Creators came in 1st place! We also had a read-in.  We read and read and read.  Unfortunately while this was going on, the little kids destroyed our puzzle.  Luckily we are redoing it.

Library: In library we have been checking out books, just like always.  But the library got a new book called, Fantasy and everyone is going crazy for it.

Music: In music Mrs. Blackwood is back!!!  And guess what?!? Our class is rockin' the house!!  We're playing fun games and jamming on the recorder!!  Bam, bang, boom, yeah!!!

Recess: For recess it is mostly just normal.  There isn't really much to write about except that we are having fun.

Morning Meeting: This and last weeks' morning meeting our handshakes were: 1. Pull your hand with another (rub) and 2. Clap your hands around your body.

Creators Out!

First place Dr. Seuss team that had lots of help practicing from the rest of the class!

Week of February 19th

Blog: Today in the blog we are writing about language arts, math, social studies,  science, the sub, French, and weekly wisdom.

Language Arts: In language arts we are reading civil war books.  Some people are reading Bull Run, some people are reading I'll Pass for Your Comrade or The Boys' War.  Some people are done with their books so they are doing a different book.  That's what we're doing for language arts.

Math: We did a whole bunch of math pages.  We also did Xtramath.com and CML.  Two of us are on subtraction and the rest are on addition.  Math is fun!

Social Studies: This week we worked on our Civil War projects all week.  All of the kids worked very hard on their boards and reports.  Finally on Thursday, we had an open house for all of our people like General Grant, General McClellan, Elizabeth Van Lew (a spy in the Civil War) and lots more.  And all of them had astonishing outfits made from places like Goodwill or other costumes.  They all looked good!

Science: We did not do science so there's not much we can say.  We did social studies instead to get ready for our Forum of Famous Faces.

Weekly Wisdom: Our weekly wisdom this week was, "Happiness is a choice.  Today I will choose to be happy."  It is a good Weekly Wisdom.

Substitute: We had a sub today.  Not much was different.

PE: In PE, swimming lessons have stopped, and we are back to our old PE.

French: We didn't have French this week.  Our teacher is home sick.  She usually gets sick around this time of year.  Instead, we did a fun game.

Week of February 4

Language Arts: In LA we are reading books about the Civil War.  Then we journal about them.  There are 3 books-The Boys' War, I'll Pass for your Comrade, and Bull Run.  The girls finished their book and are reading another.  That's what we are doing in LA.

Math: We did some pages in our math book.  We also did Xtramath.com.  The math pages were fun.  Xtramath was even more fun!

Writing: This week in writing we are still doing our Civil War diaries and hopefully we finish them by next week.

Social Studies: We are working on FFF (Forum of Famous Faces).  Right now, we're writing information on note cards and sorting them in labeled pouches in a folder.  It's pretty cool.  When we're done, we're going to do a report.  Also we are making a tri-fold board, a presentation, and we get to dress up like our person. It'll be fun.

Science: In science we have been looking at water samples.  One has a fly in it (ick and ew!).  But it's also yum and taste bud!  It's pretty cool, the germs!  Can you believe what is crawling up your shoulder?  Woohoo! Oh yeah, groovy! (You must read this in a high pitched singish voice)

Computer: We made charts using Excel in computers.  This is what charts we did.  We did pie charts, donut charts and all sorts of charts.  We made charts for how many deaths were in battles of the Civil War, lots of wars, and of diseases.

Free Time: At free time we are doing a puzzle.  We first did a 300 piece puzzle.  We got a new puzzle that has 500 pieces because the cleaners finished our first one!

Brownie Points: We are two brownie points away from a brownie party.  We are trying to earn one for Monday.  Cross your fingers!

Pizza Party: We got a pizza party on Wednesday from Little Caesars for having the most walkers and donations for the Hunger Walk in the Fall.  We made a thank you card for Little Caesars.

Art: For art we are participating in the Google Doodle contest.  You had to draw it on the best day ever.

Silent Reading: So in silent reading we're reading reading things like Harry Potter, Taran Wanderer, and Percy Jackson books.  But most people are reading the classics like Peter Pan and Dracula, or better yet, Ivanhoe and King Arthur.

PE: This week in PE we are doing swimming lessons.  This week is the last swim week.  Everyone got better at swimming.  We go on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Performing Arts: We have played on our recorder.  Two songs were "When the Saints Go Marching in" and "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star."  That's it, bye!

Week of January 28th

I'm blogging on the blog.  Today is First Friday and there is school store.  Here is more information.

Language Arts: We are still working on Language Arts.  We're reading a chapter then we make a "trading card" for it.  The girls are on the last chapter.  The boys are working hard too.  We are all almost done.

Writing: We started learning how to write in cursive.  We are going to have to write our spelling words in cursive this week.

Math: We had a math test this week and it was fun.  We did XtraMath.com too.  Math is fun!

Social Studies: In social studies we have been doing our stuff that we do in social studies.  We are people from the Civil War like General Mitchell or Mary Chestnut.  So basically we are studying social things!

Science: For science we started a new experiment.  We are seeing the effects of mold on fast food.  Wendy's and Subway are growing mold the fastest.  McDonald's and Dairy Queen don't have any mold and it has been 11 days!  It is just plain gross.

Lunch: So right now we are having pizza from Godfather's every Friday.  We also had a school store.  School store is a store that runs during lunch every other Friday.  Everything is over 25 cents and under a dollar.  It sells things like pencils, erasers, bracelets, lollipops and candy. Our lunch is pretty normal.

Recess: In recess we are just doing the usual stuff.  Nothing much is going on.

Gathering: In the First Friday Gathering we were talking about the auction.  It is called Cirque du Seabury.  We also watched a videos about Bradley Oberhofer and how he donated some albums and other stuff for the auction.  It sounds very fun!

French: In French we are learning about months and days of the week, you know, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday.  You get it, only we do it like lundi, mardi.  It rocks, I mean learning with Madame Olliphant is so awesome.  I love it.  Woo!
