Week of June 2

Wow, what a crazy week this has been!  We began the week with Field Day.  Ms. Nancy always does a great job with the activities on Field Day, and the highlight for many kids is the chance to play in the spray park at the end.  Here are some photos of our day.

We also buried our mural and artifacts from our secret society and dug up the other class' things.  The students rotated jobs in their group, but they had a process for each square on the coordinate grid.  Here are some pictures from the Big Dig, as we are affectionately calling it and some of the thinking that when into it.

First we began lightly digging in a square.

We had to sift through the sand when we suspected small pieces.

When we found an item, we measured its locations.

We also recorded the item onto a log, citing its location and depth.

Now that all of the pieces have been dug, we are putting the pieces back together and trying to decipher the Rosetta Stone and the culture.

Our field trip to the Pierce College Science Dome was fascinating.  The instructors there were impressed with our knowledge and questions.  The students enjoyed hearing about the craziness that is out in space.

Beach Day is always a highlight for the kids for the year. The students competed in a sand castle challenge and received awards based on how well they worked together. We found clams, jellyfish and live sand dollars! It was a beautiful day for the beach!
