Week of May 5

Did you hear about our gargoyle box?  The kids came into class on Monday to very large boxes sitting under the windows.  There was a sign on the boxes that read, "DANGER! Do not open!  Gargoyles!" There was much excitement and discussion about these gargoyles.
"When will we open them?"
"Are they real or concrete?"
"Why are they here?"
Much to the students' disappointment, there were in fact, not gargoyles in the box, but we are beginning our big culminating project for the year.  Our class is creating our own culture and will be making a mural and artifacts about this culture.  Once we finish with the art, we will break up the mural and bury everything in the large box in sand.  The Serpent class will be digging up these things (and we will be doing the same thing with their artifacts), and trying to piece together the invented culture.  The students are very excited about this.  Here is a picture of the very large boxes!

The students did a great job sharing their poems in Gathering today.  Thank you to the parents who were able to join us!  We spoke in length about public speaking and the best way to do this.  Most of the students were very successful with this.
