The wreaths are here!
Thank you everyone for supporting our trip to Cape Disappointment through our wreath sale. The kids worked hard sorting and filling orders so that the holidays are a little brighter.

Photography
Photography was invented right before the American Civil War making the war the first to be well documented. As we integrate art and social studies the Innovators learned more about the invention of photography, Civil War photographs and also photo techniques, including manipulating photos in GIMP. Here are some of the results.

Building Bridges
The Innovators latest engineering challenge was building bridges. After looking at bridge designs online they choose one for their craft stick bridge and then tested them to see which could hold the most weight. Two bridges tied for first place but everyone learned more about engineering.

Makerspace With Friends
The Innovators got to introduce the Ladybugs and Bumblebees to the Makerspace and had a blast. They also discovered it is sometimes hard work to be a role model but their little friends loved working with them.

Fun and Busy Week!
The Innovators were on the go this week with a guest speaker, a field trip and then Halloween. Lots of learning and fun but that's the way we roll at Seabury!
On Tuesday Bob O'Neal from the Sons of the American Revolution came by and talked about how the American flag has changed. It was really interesting to see the many ideas that were used for the flag as well as seeing Dylan dressed as a patriot.
On Wednesday we went to the Seattle Art Museum to see the Impressionist show. We saw works by Monet, Manet, Renior, Van Gogh and more. We even had time to tour the other galleries, draw on computers and strike our super hero poses in the heavy duty wind downtown.
And then there was Halloween! Lots of fun costumes, a great party (including bobbing for doughnuts) and crafts. About as much fun as one can have on a Friday!

Grabbers and Cars!
For the Innovators study of engineering they have been given a series of challenges. The latest was to make a "prosthetic arm" able to lift an object from two feet away. The students used a variety of materials but all succeeded in the challenge.
The LeMay car museum offers field trips so the Innovators went to look at how cars are designed for speed and power and how propulsion has changed over time. They made and tested wooden cars and toured much of the museum asking great questions about the vehicles they saw.
