The students wrote paragraphs about our trip to Cape Disappointment. Here are their paragraphs.
At Cape Disappointment we had a lot of fun! On the first day we went to Fort Canby and had lunch then we went to the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. On the next day we went to Fort Columbia and Fort Clatsop and had a lot of fun! On the last day we packed, ate breakfast, then we took a 2 mile walk and then we went back on the bus to come back to this place. I learned a lot and I really liked all the places we went to!
When we went to Cape Disappointment, we did many things. On the first day (after an extremely long bus ride which was actually pretty nice), we went to Fort Canby and played in tunnels after lunch. Then we listened to a park ranger tell a story about Lewis and Clark. After that, we went to a museum, went to our yurts (they're circular tents that are really nice), settled in, went to the beach, came back, had dinner, and went to bed. Those are only some of the things we did at Cape Disappointment.
On Thursday we went to many places but I'm going to tell you about the batteries we went to. The first was Battery Ord, it was huge like a mansion! It had all different rooms. Some were huge and some were small. There were 2 batteries in a row. You could climb on top of them and go downstairs to different rooms. There was a really well hidden battery in the side of a wall covered with plants. Then there was a battery under ground but we couldn't enter. It was really fun! I hope I get to go again some time.
On our trip we did lots of fun stuff. On the first day we went to the beach near the yurts. The first and second nights we slept in the yurts. We went to a museum and 2 forts. We sure had a lot of fun.
When we went to Cape Disappointment we did lots of things. On the first day we stopped at a bunker and the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center. We took lots of pictures of the view that the Interpretive Center had. When we finally got to the yurts we got with our group and went to the beach. We found these very cool forts there. After we ate chicken and shrimp and for dessert we had s'mores. After dinner we had some time to play and then went to bed. On the second day we got up and explored what Lewis and Clark did!
Our trip to Cape Disappointment we saw many things. We saw Fort Canby (which was totally epic). We also saw Fort Columbia (which was epic too). And we saw Fort Clatsop (that's a lot of forts!!!). We saw lots of cool stuff.
On our trip the beach and the yurts were awesome!!! The yurts were pretty big and the "sleeping" part was fun because our cabin totally "slept". Also there was a huge backyard thing that rocked! Then at the beach (which happened to be within walking distance) we made awesome forts! My favorite part of the trip was definitely the yurts and the beach. Yeehaw!
When we went to Cape Disappointment we went to various forts, but I will write about Fort Columbia. There were big cannons, barracks, and underground rooms. One underground room had a grave in it. I remembered that the flash of a camera in a dark haunted room, a ghost would show up. So I took a picture, and saw two white orbs. I remembered that white orbs represent spirits. So I ran out and climbed the ladder back to the top.
At Cape Disappointment, we did many things. First, we went to a bunker. It had a lot of rooms! Then, we went to an interpretive center, it had a great view! Next, we went to a 15 by 15 foot yurt (tent), and that was cozy! After that, we went to a bunker, it was wet and creepy. Last, we went to the beach.
These are the forts we saw at Cape Disappointment: Fort Clatsop, Fort Canby, and Fort Columbia. Those are the forts we saw and they were EPIC!!!!
On the trip to Cape Disappointment, we had a lot of fun. We went to a few forts. We also went to the beach. Lastly, we went to Oregon. That is what we did on the trip to Cape Disappointment.
When we went to Cape Disappointment, we did a lot of things. I loved Fort Canby, Columbia, and Clatsop. Also, I loved Middle Village. And last I loved the seals. I had a lot of fun studying Lewis and Clark.
On the way to Cape Disappointment we went to the beach. We found a gasoline tank and made a fort out of sticks. We went to Fort Columbia. It was very cool and dark. We found a ghost, it was an orb representing a spirit. We went to Fort Clatsop. It was fun.

Week of April 15th
This week was a very horrible week, actually is was kind of boring. I mean we had to do ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) testing. We all thought it was hard, not really. I mean it was like 1 + 1=_____.
On April 18th it was Poem in Your Pocket Day! Did you know that? The way we celebrated it was handing out poems from our pockets. It was fun!
We even got a Brownie Party!!!!!!!!! Howdy y'all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had a brownie party, we had a brownie party!!!!!!!!!!!!! On the last day of ITBS testing we got a celebratory brownie party for behaving so well on the testing, and more importantly, because the test was over, and even more importantly, they tasted good!!!!!!!!!!
The Cape Disappointment trip is coming up. We are going to Costco on Tuesday to buy all the supplies. We are so excited for the trip. We are going to sleep in yurts. We can bring electronics on the bus to occupy us. We will learn more about Lewis and Clark. There are old army bunkers there too. There is a tower with a view of the ocean. We leave on Wednesday!
This week we celebrated Earth Day in our class. Earth Day is actually Monday, but we celebrated early. We made Earth Day poems and amazingly funny hats. Each of the Creators wrote poems for Earth Day and read them in front of gathering while wearing our awesome hats. We made recyclable hats. Everyone had a different design of hat. They we painted our hats with a bunch of different colors. That is how we celebrated Earth Day in our class. You can read our poems below.
This is our new student, Gabe!
What we need
We need trees,
And we need bees.
We need the sun,
But no one needs a gun.
We need earth,
And we need birth.
We need peace,
And we need police.
We need air,
And we need underwear.
When the environment’s supine,
When there is no sunshine,
Pollution needs to be scanty.
Everybody needs to be planting.
I would demand for everything to be clean.
There would be no more polluting machines.
A proper world is pollution free.
So would you listen to me?
Don’t be a fool,
And stop dumping chlorine from a swimming pool.
Gas Kills
Grass
Gas kills
grass
When it
spills down from the over pass.
It also kills
river bass.
It is not
much longer till the hour glass runs out.
So think
about what earth day is all about.
So don’t go
without recycle.
Instead of a
car use a bicycle.
I prefer to
reuse paper that comes on news.
“Long Live the
Earth”
The earth gives us trees,
The trees give us air,
The air lets us breath anywhere.
The earth gives us water,
The water gives us hydration,
The water lets us live in the nation.
The earth gives us snow,
The snow lets us play,
The playing lets us say “let’s have fun today!”
The earth gives us sun,
The sun gives us light,
When the light goes down it is night.
The earth gives us animals,
The animals have fun too,
If they have fun why shouldn’t you?
The earth gives us everything,
From here to there,
The earth gives us anything anywhere.
The earth lets us live,
That’s what the earth is worth,
Let everybody say “long live the earth!”
I Love my
Earth
I love my
Earth and everything in it.
But you
need to outfit for this commitment
I like how it’s big and round.
With all
the nice, crazy, amazing sound.
And of
course with all the pointy pine cones
That I
found.
I even like
the very mean hounds.
All the
nice people who live on earth.
Always were
happy after their birth.
The air,
grass, animals and trees.
The earth
gives us all of that.
But only if
you say please.
Green Grass
My hairspray smells like grapes,
It's also great perfume.
It makes the grass all gray,
Gray grass never
grows green. (I’m in doom!)
My hair is as hard as a rock.
It’s smelly in good ways.
I pound my rock hard locks,
They ring and bang and bong- I raise my head in song.
The earth is great stuff!
Let’s fill the earth with buff,
And all that pretty puff!
Grape hairspray kills stuff and buff and…
FLUFF!!!!!
Earth Day
Do you want to know what Earth day is all about?
Well come a little closer so I don’t have to shout.
Earth Day is about the environment, you see.
If you take care of it, life will be easier for you and for me.
It’s about taking care of the streams, flowers, and all of the
trees
So the birds, spiders, bugs, fish, mammals and the bees
And most importantly us humans, ourselves, humankind so we can
live, can exist, can survive, can breath;
So we can thank Mother
Nature for what she has given us for the cold weather, the hot weather, and the
fairest of degrees.
So that’s what Earth Day is all about.
Go out there and take care of the environment and maybe plant a
sprout.
Trees
Once upon a time, the
trees
Were nicely swaying in
the breeze,
Then a man came and
cut
Down a tree to make
his hut.
Others came and
chopped some too
And the lovely
landscape turned into
A boring one of
little stumps,
A yucky one of city dumps.
For they turned it
into a rather large town
With people always
hanging around.
Oh that man made a
terrible mistake
‘Cause wow what a
difference one tree can make.
Polluted
in the future
Let’s
go to the future when the earth gets polluted,
And
everyone is suited.
But
we can change that all right now.
I
will tell you how.
Burn
your trash to ash,
Even
smash it to mash.
Put
it in a worm box,
Don’t
give it to a fox.
Don’t
kill bees,
Tthey
help trees.
Suffer
Because of the smog, it is
not sunny,
So Danny lost his money.
If there aren’t trees then
there will be no bees.
And if there aren’t trees
then there are no seeds.
And nothing will matter if
paper gets fatter.
And everything’s better if
recycling will matter.
And if you don’t recycle
paper
Then you will breathe harder
later,
And you will suffer
And you will find out that it
will be tougher.
IF YOU
CARE
Kill a
tiger, kill a bear,
Do it, do it if you dare.
There will be consequences, don’t think not,
If you dare to put a tiger in the pot.
If you don’t care, eat a bear,
But if you care, don’t eat him medium rare!
If you care, don’t eat the pigeon in the snare!
If you care, don’t kill the mare.
Please don’t kill the mare.
ENVIRO
As I watch a river flow,
I sometimes wonder if it knows.
How a bee collects a rose.
Or how an oaken sapling grows.
Or how a firefly brightly glows.
Or why that cricket likes my hose.
Or why that fly flew up my nose.
Or why that hairspray killed my rose.
Or why that car oil dyed my toes.
Or why the wind will sharply blow.
Because I used toothpaste to wash the windows so they glow.
If I asked the river so,
Then it might tell me not to slow.
